Newest Work: Executive Coaching Firm Rubicon Advisory Group

RUB - Rubicon Brand Identity, Logo Design, Website > Revised Logo

Rose Fiorilli is one of the smartest people I know. She brings together a rare combination of left-brained, technical business savvy and an incredible appreciation and talent for creatively-driven brands and businesses (Chanel, Nabisco, Schumacher). Her intuition borders on the intimidating.

She's the person you want in your corner if you're facing a personal "Rubicon" - anything from an entrepreneurial growth plateau to the traditional corporate battle.

I should know because I've been able to get to know Rose when we were both at Nabisco Biscuit Company and once again at Chanel. And, for full disclosure, we're also both graduates of the Wharton School.

Let's just say, I wasn't always smart enough to recognize just how insightful Rose's counsel was when she gave it.

Today, I know better.  Anyone interested in Executive Coaching in New York City (or really anywhere), would do well to at least invest in a brief conversation with her.

Rose came to us to help create a small, but well designed brand identity and informative web design that lives up to her exacting creative standards.

Importantly, we also worked together to make sure that she's armed with the analytical tools behind the scenes to help her grow and manage her business over time.

Digital Scientists Launches Linder Security & Home Technology Landing Page

You may know Linder Security from their green signs in lawns all across Atlanta.  While they have been a trusted name in Atlanta home security for over 25 years, Linder also specializes in home technology – everything from entertainment systems to home automation. Being the technology geeks that we are, we’re very intrigued (and somewhat jealous!) of their home automation services. Imagine controlling everything in your house (TV, audio, lighting, air conditioning, etc.) with one single remote or even monitoring your security cameras from your iPhone.  Not too far off from Star Trek, eh?

Linder came to us with a very simple, yet pressing need: They just started running radio ads on Atlanta’s 680 The Fan but were concerned that the ads were driving people to an outdated website (see below) that wouldn’t do a great job of converting interest into business.

Linder Security Landing Page – The Before

Completely redesigning their site in a few days was out of the question, but we thought we could capture their services, experience, and points of difference in a professional looking landing page (see below).

Linder Security Landing Page – The After

It was an exciting project and we truly enjoyed working with a local Atlanta company that has been a trusted name in their field for over 25 years. We’ll check back in later if we learn more about the results.

MarketingNPV Site Redesigned by Digital Scientists

We are pleased to announce the launch of a new website for MarketingNPV, a highly specialized advisory firm that links marketing investments to financial value creation, enabling clients to measure the payback on their marketing efforts and take smarter risks with resource allocation.

MarketingNPV came to Digital Scientists with the need to leverage their website to drive conversions.  Beginning with a strategy session, the website has been totally redesigned to support their core business.  MarketingNPV is comprised of thought leaders and experts in their field and is a great resource for marketing organizations.

The site features an extensive library of articles, webcasts, book reviews, interviews, and more. Registered users can access an online version of the MarketingNPV Journal using Issuu. The website is built on the Drupal platform and is integrated with MailChimp for easy mailing list management.

The site also features a solution center where users can find resources to
address the most challenging questions of the day with regards to Return-on-Marketing-Investments (or ROMI).

Digital Scientists Designs New Site for Global Child Dental Fund

The Global Child Dental Fund was all smiles when we launched their new website.  Pun intended.  GCD Fund is a charitable oral health task force, comprised of dental professionals from around the world.   They are dedicated to the eradication of childhood cavities and tooth decay.  They work tirelessly to educate communities on oral hygiene, dental technology, and dental best practices.

GCD Fund needed a new website to manage their vast amount of content and multi-national memberships – a simple and elegant front-end design but a true workhorse behind the scenes. We started by switching them to the Drupal content management system. Drupal is a robust platform with excellent community features, including multilevel administration privileges, which is key to the management of the GCD Fund’s national, regional, and institution-based task forces. We designed country-specific group pages, each with their own discussion forums, blogs, resources, and RSS news aggregators. To top it off, we set-up an account with a third-party platform that allows the GCD Fund to accept online donations (hint, hint, readers).

We think the site looks fantastic, but more importantly, we applaud the charitable work of the GCD Fund.

Here’s a look at their previous webpage on the King’s College site (who doesn’t love a before and after?) :

Digital Scientists Chris Burnett and Tom Klein Attend 2009 Apple WWDC

Well, thanks to the success that we’ve enjoyed with our Mission Zero iPhone App (over 100K people have downloaded it so far), we decided that it was high time for us to join our fellow iPhone developers at what could be called the annual Apple Developer Woodstock.

It’s the Apple Worldwide Developer Conference. Heck, why don’t they just call it the Apple InterGalactic Developer Conference. It’s all the same to us. This is Apple’s annual conference that features the by now so familiar announcement on day one of the upgrade to the “it device” of the past few years – the iPhone.

Also, this is the event where Apple developers come from far and wide to geek out on what’s new and cool and now possible on the iPhone or just on Macs in general.

Of course, while Chris is the full-fledged lead iPhone developer in our shop, I’m going along for the ride to see what I can learn about the latest capabilities, design requirements, and generally how people are using the iPhone as a platform to grow businesses.  I’ll do my best over the next 5 days or so to give you some insight into what happens, how things happen, and what I learn that might be of interest.

Also, one more thing. Because I’m also the marketing guy and this developer conference is really an extension of Apple’s marketing and distribution strategy for the iPhone, I’ll be commenting on all sorts of stuff, both here and on twitter @tomklein.  And, of course, I’ll do my best to add photos, cool stuff.

For example – check out this picture of my badge for the week. If you lose it, they extinguish your life force and send you home in a recycled paper bag:

One thing I should warn you, I won’t be able to provide you much in the way of technical details because the entire event is sort of on NDA lockdown. We’re going to get access to the really good stuff- but we’re not really able to say much about it. That’s why I’ll focus on the marketing angle of everything. Apple really puts so much thought into everything that I think there are lessons for just about everyone.

And one last thing, be sure to check out the keynote, streamed live from all sorts of places, such as:

Web Design Company Digital Scientists sponsors WABE Public Radio

If you’re a regular NPR listener, you may have heard this lovely little sponsorship spot on WABE, highlighting Digital Scientists’ expertise in web design, online advertising, social networks, and web and iPhone application development:

Digital Scientists’ WABE Sponsorship

That’s because Digital Scientists is a proud sponsor of National Public Radio and Public Broadcasting Atlanta.  I know what you’re thinking, it’s not very “digital” of us to venture offline, but public radio is a rich advertising environment with a highly desirable demographic.  Not to mention, we’re big fans of WABE personality, Lois Reitzes.  Some more than others.

New Website Launched for RTI International Metals, Inc.

What do alpha alloys, heat transfer characteristics and marketing have in common?  Scientists, of course!

In September of 2008, Digital Scientists began a project with RTI International Metals, Inc. to rebrand and redefine the corporate website.  RTI International Metals, Inc., headquartered in Pittsburgh, is a titanium and specialty metal supplier to major manufacturers across multiple industries.  We are happy to announce that the new website launched Friday, February 20, 2009.

In working with RTI to develop the message and the design of the new website, we certainly have learned a lot about titanium!  Did you know that titanium is stronger than aluminum and lighter than carbon steel and stainless steel?  It also is highly resistive to corrosion, which makes it a great fit for use in jet engines, sports equipment, manufacturing equipment, oil drilling, and more.  Titanium is even the metal of choice for medical and dental instruments and implants because of it’s biocompatibility and is even being made into nano-wires to develop fireproof and self-cleaning paper.  We here at Digital Scientists definitely appreciate the science behind it all.

The project started out with overall strategy discussion and a focus on the messaging to align with the new brand strategy at RTI International Metals.  The site was designed to communicate the benefits of using custom titanium and specialty metals parts collaboratively engineered by experts in your market, for your project.  It is managed using siteReviser, a content management system that has a lot of great features including live editing, easy publishing, and asset management.

In the coming months we will be working on some more interactive pieces of the website as well as taking on other marketing projects for RTI.   There is certainly a lot of vision, and we’re looking forward to helping make it a reality.  After all, the “space age metal” opened up a world of possibilities, so can the new science of marketing.
