Overview

Global package consolidation goes mobile

MyUS.com is a premier international package consolidation service, providing consumers around the world with a simple, reliable way to shop at US e-commerce stores and have their purchases shipped overseas. With over 10 million packages shipped since 1997, MyUS serves members in more than 200 countries who save up to 80% on international shipping through package consolidation.

When MyUS approached Digital Scientists, the entire customer experience was locked inside the desktop web browser. International shoppers had no way to manage packages, track shipments, or initiate consolidation from their phones. With mobile traffic growing rapidly among their global user base, MyUS needed to bring the full shipping workflow to iOS and Android.

Digital Scientists partnered closely with the MyUS internal development team to design, prototype, and build the company's first mobile application — leveraging the existing web application and JSON API to deliver a cross-platform hybrid app in less than 90 days.

The Challenge

Bringing international shipping to mobile

MyUS.com's package consolidation workflow was entirely web-based, requiring customers to log in to the desktop site to manage packages, enter customs values, upload invoices, and initiate shipments. For international users often on the go or in different time zones, this created friction at every step.

The business challenge was clear: deliver a mobile app that could handle the full complexity of international shipping — customs declarations, package consolidation, shipping method selection, real-time tracking, and invoice uploads — while making it feel simple and fast.

Digital Scientists needed to distill a complex desktop workflow into a mobile-first experience, co-develop a secure API gateway with the MyUS engineering team, and ship a production-ready MVP across both platforms in under 90 days.

Jobs To Be Done

What international shoppers needed to accomplish

Quickly complete a shipping consolidation with the fewest steps possible from a mobile device

Receive push notifications when packages arrive and track shipment status en-route

See the true cost of shipment upfront before confirming, with no hidden fees or surprises

Handle US export and customs compliance requirements with a simplified, guided workflow

Upload merchant invoices and enter declared item values directly from the phone

Save and manage shipping preferences, addresses, and one-click ship settings for faster repeat shipments

The Solution

A mobile-first approach to package consolidation

Digital Scientists designed the app around three core pillars: onboarding that explains the MyUS value proposition, a streamlined package management workflow organized by status, and one-click shipping that reduces a multi-step desktop process to a single tap.

Welcome and onboarding flow

On first launch, the app presents a carousel of help cards that explain how MyUS works — from getting a US shipping address, to shopping at American retailers, to consolidating packages and saving up to 80% on international shipping. The onboarding flow guides new users to sign up and existing members to log in, reducing friction to first use.

After sign-up, users complete their one-click shipping preferences: shipping address, preferred carrier and method (FedEx, UPS, DHL), and automatic shipping schedule. These preferences enable the one-click ship feature that makes subsequent shipments effortless.

My Suite: three-tab package workflow

The core of the app is the My Suite dashboard — a tabbed interface that organizes packages into three statuses: Ready to Send, In Review, and Action Required. Each tab provides contextual actions so users always know what to do next.

Ready to Send tab showing a list of packages with checkboxes, merchant names, values, weights, and a One-Click Ship button at the bottom

Ready to Send

Select packages and ship them with a single tap. The one-click ship button shows a real-time cost estimate before confirmation.

Action Required tab showing packages from Apple, Macy's, DSW, and Saks that need declared values or merchant invoices before customs clearance

Action Required

Packages needing customs values or merchant invoices are flagged here. Users can enter values individually or use express edit for bulk entry.

Key Features

Streamlined shipping from end to end

Every screen was designed to reduce steps and provide clarity. Package detail pages show full contents, photos, and customs data. The ship confirmation modal gives users a final review before committing. And push notifications keep users informed without opening the app.

Package detail and order tracking

  • Full package contents with merchant names, item descriptions, quantities, and customs schedule codes
  • Photo gallery with pinch-to-zoom for verifying package contents before shipping
  • Shipped order details with carrier, tracking number, destination address, and consolidated package breakdown
  • Direct invoice upload from camera or photo library for customs compliance
  • Notes and special service requests per package (remove boxes, combine items, etc.)
Technical Approach

Cross-platform delivery in record time

Digital Scientists worked in close collaboration with the MyUS internal development team to co-architect the mobile solution. By leveraging the existing web application and JSON API, the team delivered a production-ready app for both platforms without rebuilding backend infrastructure.

Framework

Ionic + AngularJS

Hybrid development using Ionic and AngularJS enabled a single codebase for iOS and Android, with Android Crosswalk for consistent WebView performance across device fragmentation.

Authentication

Secure API Gateway & SSO

Co-developed a secure API gateway authentication layer and single sign-on functionality between the MyUS website and the mobile app, ensuring seamless session continuity.

API Integration

Existing JSON API

Leveraged the existing MyUS JSON API to deliver full package management, shipping, history, and customs workflows without backend rewrites — critical to the 90-day timeline.

Notifications

Push Notifications

Real-time push notifications alert users when packages arrive at their MyUS address, when shipments are queued, and when action is required — keeping users engaged without opening the app.

Customs Compliance

Declared Value Workflow

Guided customs declaration workflow with value confirmation, merchant invoice upload via camera, and error handling for values that don't match expected market prices.

UX Strategy

Hybrid Webview Integration

Features not yet available natively (shipping calculator, rewards, knowledge base) open seamlessly in an in-app webview, providing full functionality without blocking the MVP launch.

Engagement Features

Notifications and personalized shipping

Push notifications were a key differentiator over the desktop experience. Users receive real-time alerts when packages arrive at their MyUS address and are ready to ship, keeping them engaged and reducing time-to-shipment.

The one-click shipping preferences let users save their default shipping address, preferred carrier (FedEx, UPS, DHL), shipping method (overnight, 2-day, ground), and automated shipping schedule. Once configured, repeat shipments require just a single tap.

The ship confirmation dialog provides a final cost estimate and package summary before committing, giving users confidence and transparency at the moment of purchase.

The Value Proposition

Consolidate packages, save up to 80%

The core value of MyUS is package consolidation. Instead of paying separate international shipping fees for each US purchase, MyUS combines multiple packages from different retailers into a single consolidated shipment — saving customers up to 80% on international shipping costs.

The mobile app makes this process seamless: packages arrive at the user's MyUS address, appear in the Ready to Send tab, and can be selected for consolidation and shipped with a single tap. Express door-to-door delivery reaches 200+ countries in 2-4 business days.
