If you’re one of the 23 million Americans who’ve had a package stolen from their doorstep by a “porch pirate,” you’ve experienced the frustration of a missing package and the hassle, delay and expense of trying to replace it — if it’s replaceable at all.

BoxLock is the first internet-connected padlock specifically designed to safeguard your home deliveries and track package status. It’s IoT security for last mile delivery – protecting deliveries at home, at work and everywhere in between. The delivery driver scans the tracking number for the package or delivery and the smart padlock connects to the internet to confirm the validity and recipient for access.

Digital Scientists designed and built the platform, including native mobile apps for iOS and Android, an Admin app, and back-end infrastructure.

BoxLock came to us with an early functional prototype and was looking for a local team to build the production version. The complexities of hardware, multiple software applications, and firmware integration make finding a single partner for IoT development nearly impossible. Digital Scientists focused on the software design and development and was part of a larger Atlanta-based team that included industrial design, electrical and mechanical engineering firms working together toward the consumer product release at CES 2018 in Las Vegas, January 2018.

This was a true Minimum Viable Product (MVP), a product designed, built and launched in 90 days! Actually, the time was closer to 75 days (started in early October and working around the holidays), but who’s counting.

Over a series of iterations, we worked together to configure the interface design for the BoxLock mobile app (iOS and Android), and to propose and prioritize additional features for the product roadmap. While focusing on the MVP ideas, our team came up with long-term developments and future enhancements that were built into the development roadmap.
